envisioning the portrait

When working with clients/friends/family to create portraits I always try and remember that this work is not nearly as much about the technical details as it is about capturing the essence of the individual. Getting at what is behind the smile, the hair and make-up, and even the personality - to see the subject as "imago dei" - the image of God - is at the center of making portraits.
